Mandatory reporting – what does it mean and what can trigger it?
Mandatory reporting is a legal requirement under state and territory criminal and child protection laws. It means that certain people must report to law enforcement or child protection authorities if they have a reasonable belief that a child or young person is being abused, neglected, or is at risk of significant harm, and/or a child sexual abuse offence has been committed.
Although the helpline is anonymous, and we only have the information that you choose to disclose, Stop It Now! Australia adheres to all mandatory reporting requirements.
If we form a reasonable belief that an offence has occurred, or that a child is at risk of significant harm, including any online offending, we make a report to relevant authorities, including police and/or child protection.
